A slightly better night at Tony D, at least in terms of attendance. I think that there were about 13 people all totaled by the end of the night. Now, that is actually fairly pathetic, but given the fact that people are traveling, the economy is preventing some people from joining the gym and other people have jobs on Thursday night at some people are lazy and people just don't really care about juggling, the turnout wasn't that bad. Here's what's happening here: Today was a banner day. Productive morning of guerrilla tech--running on stage any time there was a gap--afternoon of practice with a Cuban juggler who snuck in with a teeterboard troupe he's not normally in but his friends are. He wanted to go to China. They gave him one trick in the show. Kind of like me and Matt.

I am really exhausted. Work these days is just a crushing grind, and I am ground down to a fine powder.
I didn't practice much this past week because a) I had to get to work at 6AM on Monday, b) I was still too tired on Tuesday from having worked 75 hours the previous week c) I was still to tired on Wed and d) on Thursday, my dog got me up for an hour at 2 am to hunt skunks so I didn't get a good night's sleep.

As a result, I was like a zombie riding the train...

So, I'll write more later, but I just have to say this: New New Chinese (a.k.a Grand Sichuan) kicks ass. Wow. That was great food. I probably could have eaten until I puked, and then gone back for more. Spicy small shrimp where, well super hot but super good. Eel in garlic sauce? Possibly the best eel I have ever had. Shaved potatoes in vinegar? Bizarre but tasty.

Holy crowded with maybe 30 jugglers of all ages and abilities. I gotta admit at one point while I was directing Avi through the doors to the pizza/smoothie shop, I did think, this club has it all.

Jay Green gave a workshop on the "Fundamentals of Juggling." He doesn't seem to understand the workshop concept. While everyone sat and watched, he gave individual instruction to people who wanted it on specific props. The individual instruction was helpful, but it didn't...

What do you get when you mix beautiful weather, a great outdoor setting, and an fringe activity that seems to interest eccentrics of all ages? You get the New York Unicycle club.

A really crowded meeting at Grant's Tomb yesterday. I think there were probably about 30-40 riders who showed up. The weather was insanely beautiful which probably helped. I rode for about an hour, then I skated for a bit and then jugged for about 1/2 an hour (yes I juggle outside. Deal with it)....

Light night. Seems like they all are these days. A few new folks (welcome Danny) and returnees (hi Anthony).

I love seven-club left-right patterns and was pleased Matt was game for some three-count and ultimates, but the evening's highlight was definitely the pep-chovy crack pie. Damn that's some good pizza.

Good times! Lorinne came for her first time, Michael Karas was back (he definitely needs a nickname), Awesome Kyle, Ross, Paris, Mel, and others in the house. Seth, Kyra, and Bernie are such a distraction I don't juggle much, but it's worth it. The kids had a pogo stick and a pair of stilts that were way too big for them. Old-time Bindlestiffs Tanya and Chris both came, and Kevin and Giselle returned for another lesson. Kevin brought the shakere (sp?) finally. My juggling sucked...

These are the few weeks of the year when the Tony-D rec center gym is really great temperature-wise. There was a light breeze coming in through the pad locked windows and the killer humidity of summer had worked its way out of the gym's atmosphere. Although there were a bunch of people playing basketball when I arrived, they cleared out when asked with out the usual rancor. Mr. and Mrs. Russell Davis came to juggling! Russell has a show opening at the Signature (as Paris posted), so they're in town more. They came early, expecting at least to see Slammin, but I told them he was out with a hamstring injury. Married life seems to agree with them; they were both radiant.

Second week back at Pratt, and holy crowded if it isn't awesome already. Way to go Matt from Pratt! Good music and good company, although my actual juggling sucked!

When we got there just before 7:30, Mark Nizer (with whom Sean's been practicing at Chelsea) and Robin Hu (with whom I've been emailing) were both trying to get in. Mark's card had expired, and Robin wanted to buy one. The guard told them to wait for the manager.

Sean swiped his card and walked past, but the guard started yelling at him and said he hadn't swiped, so he walked back and swiped again.

My goodness, I was so ridiculously tired all week long despite the fact that I took off Monday from work to recuperate from the IJA festival. I got busted several times this week for falling asleep during meetings, including one which ended with the meeting organizer saying "Well, we must be done because Andy is asleep". Yikes.

Every so often when you walk into the actual gym at Carmine it really seems like a beautiful place: the gym is almost empty, the sun is streaming in through the windows and the gym is cool (ish) in temperature. Last night was one of those nights. Call me crazy, but the gym seemed really nice and inviting when I walked in. It was almost totally empty (Alex was there) and I walked in with Sean. I got caught in a downpour on my way from the west 4th station to Carmine. My umbrella broke. This weather is getting to be annoying. My plants look fantastic, but it is annoying.
