The video for his new single That Old Pair Of Jeans is another tale of the unexpected. Renowned comedian and entertainer Chris Bliss interprets the music of Fatboy Slim through the medium of juggling-brilliant! Can you juggle to music like Chris Bliss? If Fatboy Slim thinks so too then he'll pick your juggler video to be the winning video that will feature on the enhanced version of the second single to be released from the Greatest Hits album this Summer. On the non item side, I hear there are some really good jugglers posting videos you can see--Vova & Manu for example. Note: I haven't heard that any of them are any good.

I'm kind of annoyed about it...this guy's got money, the "prize" should be more than just the selection of a video. They should pay, or fly them out to do a real production or something. Cyn: I agreed with you about doing a real production until I went to the Fat Boy Slim site and watched the Chriss Bliss version of the video: www.fatboyslim.net/start.htm and click on video. The Criss Bliss one feels contrived and forced, and it's basically the same as the one to the Beatles song that shot around the internet. I think that this new contest is to see if they can get something great that isn't ruined by producers, deadlines, budget, and space limitations. There should be a better prize (like a lot of money), and I suspect that they only used the Chris Bliss performance in the video because they had already paid so much for it. Why else would they want a different version for the dvd?

It feels contrived, forced, and it's pretty much the same thing he did to that Beatles song in the video that swept the internet. I would bet that Fat Boy Slim is doing this contest to see if they can get something great by removing the restraints of producers, budgets, schedules, locations, and deadlines. I think that they only used the Chris Bliss version because they had already paid so much for it. Vova's video is well produced and has fantastic production value...but... It's boring. No offense other Mark (or Vova). It's fantastic technical juggling, of course, but you could swap heads and make it anybody, Jason, Ivan, whoever. The juggling itself has very little creativity, the routine rarely jives with beat of the song, he doesn't look like he's having fun and for pete's sakes he's not even wearing jeans. I dunno, I don't want to criticize the kid too much, but I think he could have done a lot better.

For me what makes this video so great is that it's like Vova is in a magical rockin'-out juggling world where everything is awesome. The shots are beautiful, the location is beautiful and so is the juggling. It's not a video that needs a lot of personality. I love that it's both serene and exciting, while the music makes it super-cool. I don't find the juggling boring at all, I find it meditative. I have an email out to a lot of my non-juggling friends, and I'm very interested to see if it is boring to them.

You don't think he has his a unique style? It's not the most appealing or interesting style, and it's a bit spastic, but it's definitely his own personal style. I think if you put Garfield's head on Bliss you'd know it wasn't Garfield or you'd say "holy crap, why is Garfield juggling like Bliss?!" Whereas, if you put Garfield's head on Vova, you'd just wonder why his muscles weren't as bulky as usual. "You" being used as a general term...

At the same time though, I don't think it's a bad thing to have the same style as someone who is flawless, and makes highly technical tricks look easy. It may not be a style that is as engaging as John Gilkey or Emile Carey, but it is still a valid style and is perfect for certain situations... like this video. I'm one of the first to complain about a juggler not having a good costume, and technical juggling being boring in a performance intended for anyone other than jugglers, but I think they really hit it right in this video. The only way that it would be better for me would be if Vova could dance as well as Usher. But since that's not realistic, I think the cooled-out head bobbing he does is great.

Wow, I don't agree at all. To us it looks the same, but since a non-juggler wouldn't have an idea of the range of what's possible, I bet they would enjoy seeing him rock out to a different song. It's like seeing a different dance by the same dancer--sure it's the same style, but it's a different piece, and if you like the style, you'll probably like seeing the person in it. And doesn't Chris Bliss look like Henry Winkler at the beginning of that video? As to Vova's video, I felt the same way at first (as Cyn) but by the end felt more like Mark. The production is great (way to go Mark, and nice to see you lurking here. How's your gorgeous daughter?), and the house looks great (last Vova video I saw there it was still under construction), and it's a totally different take on the concept--not watch me synch to the music but here's someone doing this extraordinary thing in an extraordinary setting and yet he's totally calm and not endangering the glass, etc. and it's fascinating in some strange way. Of the ones I watched, Erin comes the closest to that original Chris Bliss-Beatles feeling of jamming to the music.
